While the Taber and District 4-H Show and Sale may not have the 100 years of history 4-H has in the country, the show and sale will continue its long and proud tradition at the Taber Agri-Plex, May 31-June 1.

Many young people regularly help out on the family farm. Scenes like a farmer’s son driving a tractor, helping collect bales or working during the busy harvest season are iconic images of what the rural, Prairie lifestyle is all about. Those images have also served to muddy the waters of the child-labour debate on Alberta farms, according to some.

It’s just a matter of wait and see for Eric Musekamp, president of the Farmworkers Union of Alberta (FUA). Musekamp wants an extension of mandatory worker’s compensation paid to farmworkers so that these costs and more are paid for by the agriculture industry through the Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) and not paid for by taxpayers through Alberta Health Services (AHS).
