On his way to Kindersley, Sask. last Wednesday morning, Taber farmer John Turcato hailed his newfound freedom to sell his wheat. "The big guy that was sitting on my chest yesterday got off and I can breathe a lot freer," he said.

The agricultural landscape is about to change in Alberta, and it’s not just because of the elimination of the Canadian Wheat Board’s single-desk monopoly. Monday in Edmonton, the provincial government announced the establishment of two new commissions to strengthen and increase the competitiveness of Alberta’s grain industry.

Spectators will get to see what seven months of constant care can bring at the annual Taber and District 4-H Show and Sale which goes this Friday and Saturday at the Taber Agri-Plex. Six clubs will be on display showing off their animals with Taber Beef, Bon Ayr Beef, Grassy Lake, Retlaw, Hays Multi, and New Ewe Sheep Club.
