Out with the old and in with the new! 2013 has kicked off a year full of exciting prospects, as the New Year brings plenty of time to renew and rejuvenate, so don’t waste it. Get up, get out and get going — working towards the achievement of goals and aspirations. Last year is a memory while the New Year allows us to start again, to revamp or re-invent or simply to keep on keepin’ on. Mark today on the calendar as the day you decide to learn something new, travel and explore a new place, maybe ask that guy or girl out on a date, rekindle a friendship, get reacquainted with a family member or break a habit or two.
Each year is a cycle and each year allows for the opportunity to stop and start. To stop procrastinating and start doing — whatever that shall be. 2013 is a time to be thankful and to appreciate all that is good and to perhaps focus a little attention on things that may have caused stress or concern last year, in order to move forward and ahead.
With less than 365 days to get things done, now is the time to kick start a new career, to take an online college or university course, to get more exercise, to eat better, to spend time with a special someone, whether it be family or a friend, or most importantly today is a good day to be good to yourself by indulging in life and living it full-throttle, no-holds-barred.
Sure, the New Year may not be desired by everyone and some may be less than enthusiastic getting their feet wet in a new year, that’s bound to happen. Book a vacation to a far off place, write a book, pick up a guitar and learn some chords, take a son or daughter out for a fun activity or sit around in pajamas all day while playing with a giant tub of Lego or with Monster High dolls, sit in a coffee shop sipping a warm beverage while catching up with an old friend and/or get together with family and create a great meal. Be spontaneous and go for a drive, smile and laugh, be willing to change and grow, take the path of least resistance and go with the flow.
Life is to be lived and the New Year is a chance to do it and be it. Life will throw you lemons, and as some will say, make lemonade. It is easier said than done. Trials and tribulations make up a lifetime of regrets and triumphs. Life is like an Etch-a-Sketch — a person can create a masterpiece or a slightly lopsided design but in the New Year that person can shake the Etch-a-Sketch and start with a clean slate, if that person chooses.
The toy analogy isn’t necessarily perfect and of course it has its flaws but it provides a simple and straight-forward description of what a new year can bring.
2013 is here and the possibilities are endless. The one vital aspect we can learn from December 2012 was  — the world was not nigh (avoided an apocalypse, whew), therefore, experience life, today and tomorrow.
