Medicine Hat MP, LaVar Payne

We are well into the fall weather and the harvest is nearing completion.  Our farmers, ranchers and other agriculture producers have had to endure very different and difficult weather patterns with more rain and cooler weather than we usually seen. Our Agriculture Minister the Hon. Gerry Ritz has been working tirelessly to expand our agriculture markets through trade missions to Asia, Mexico, the United States, the Middle East, as well as South America. Through his efforts we have reopened and expanded access for cattle, beef and beef products in China, Hong Kong, Columbia, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Panama and Singapore.  Canada has also made significant progress in opportunities for pulses and Canola in a number of countries including China, India and Turkey.

As summer draws to a close and students prepare for another successful year, our thoughts turn to fall and the harvest season.  After already enjoying the Cardston Parade and the Whoop Up Days Parade, I’m looking forward to ending August celebrating and talking with constituents at the Taber Cornfest.
This month, I presented three Community Initiatives Grants within the constituency; Taber Photography Club, Cardston Girls Choir Society, and the Hill Spring School Playground as well as a Community Facility Enhancement Grant to the Taber Food Bank Society.

MP LaVar Payne

This has been a different summer for many of our residents, with the devastating floods and cooler weather, and now we are near the end of summer season.  It appears that the harvest will be better than most years if the crops can be harvested before any frost.
For some residents, this year has caused untold grief.  The Alberta Government is working towards resolution of the devastation caused by the floods in June.

Medicine Hat MP LaVar Payne

As the spring session of the House of Commons has ended, Members of Parliament have returned to our ridings for the summer.  This summer period is a busy time for me as I will be spending the majority of my time in the various communities in our constituency, attending many events, talking with people and businesses, helping those with their questions and problems.  Canada Day celebrations are an important way to express our support of our beautiful and free country and I will be attending four Canada ceremonies that day in Medicine Hat, Brooks, Vauxhall and Rosemary.  Please express your support of our country by joining community celebrations.
