MLA Broyce Jacobs This month, I presented three Community Initiatives Grants within the constituency; Taber Photography Club, Cardston Girls Choir Society, and the Hill Spring School Playground as well as a Community Facility Enhancement Grant to the Taber Food Bank Society. I was pleased that Premier Stelmach was able to attend the 2010 South West Alberta Regional PC Golf Tournament and Dinner at Paradise Canyon Golf & Country Club on August 23. It was a fun day with plenty of sunshine. I had the pleasure of attending the Alberta Rural Physicians Award of Distinction Ceremony in which Dr. Robert Wedel was honored for this work and contributions to community through his medical practice, teaching other health professionals, conductingresearch and volunteering in the community. Congratulations Dr. Robert Wedel ! I would like to thank the following organizations and community groups for their dedication and for giving me the opportunity to meet with them in recent weeks (in both my capacity as MLA and as a Parliamentary Assistant for Agriculture and Rural Development): ShinahHouse - Mosaic presentation in Cardston on August 4 RCMP Musical Ride in Milk River on August 7 Beef 2010 Semi Annual Meeting in Calgary on August 11 Coutts School Homecoming Dinner on August 14 Albertans can look to the future with pride and confidence. On Aug. 25, 2010, the Alberta government released its 2010-11 First Quarter Fiscal Update. It confirmed that Alberta is on track to meet this year's budget forecast and to be back in the black by 2012-13. Our government will continue to take a balanced and cautious approach by keeping a close eye on spending while continuing to take steps to build a stronger and more competitive Alberta. Local Municipal Governments such as Counties, Municipal Districts, Town and Villages often make request of me to represent their concerns for additional provincial funding for local roads and other local projects in their communities. I am happy to represent their concerns to the provincial government and will continue to do so. However, I need to point out that local municipalities have financial responsibility for their own roads. I also need to point out that the Alberta Government makes considerable funding available to municipalities through grant programs such as the Alberta Municipal Infrastructure Program, Federal Gas Tax Fund and the Municipal Sustainability Initiative, which are in addition to the Rural Transportation Grant. It’s always a great pleasure to be able to meet constituents of all backgrounds and ages. If you have any questions, concerns or issues you’d like to discuss, please feel free to contact my office in Cardston at (403) 653-5100 or in Taber at 1-888-600-6080. I can also provide congratulatory scrolls for birthdays 65 years and older and wedding anniversaries in five year increments, starting at 25 years. |
