Wildrose Ag critic Ian Donovan plays right into the hands of the Alberta government as controversy swirls about the issues of farm safety, child labour and WCB coverage for farmworkers. The Alberta government hides out refusing all comment, Donovan appears on TV climbing down from his quarter-of-a-million-dollar tractor to suggest it would be too costly to protect farmworkers. The PCs remain silent as the Wild Rose is their messenger.

I am concerned that an MLA and farmer in southern Alberta would make the comparison of him learning to drive a tractor on his fathers farm, to the children David Swan is referring to in his suggestion of a boycott of produced products from farm industries that exploit and abuse child labourers.

We know that the number of seniors is increasing rapidly. If 46 per cent of the general public will be directly or indirectly affected by depression, it would appear appropriate to ask these questions: 1. Where is mental health care in our provincial government priorities? 2. What short and long-term plans does the Redford government have for its constituents who are over 65 years old or older? After all, these people have contributed to society and paid their taxes for decades. 3. When will our government decide on a clear plan of action with adequate funding for the above?
