I read your article on recycling numbers with interest in your March 30th issue. About two years ago, we instituted a "blue box " program here in Barnwell in which every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month our recycling is picked up at our door, alongside our garbage.

This program has been a real success and is getting more participation from our residents monthly. Besides keeping garbage out of the landfill, it is making it easier for us to keep to our 3 (or less) garbage bag per week limit, it is handy for residents not having to take their recycling to the nearest depot, and they take all the usual recycling items: cardboard/paper, numbered plastics, tin and glass.I feel it is also contributing to the education of the general population to the value of recycling and keeping recyclables out of the landfill.
Maybe it’s time for Taber to look at a similar "blue box" program. It’s handy, encourages recycling, gets rid of the issue of garbage being dumped at recycling depots, and reduces the trash at the dump.
