EDITOR; I receive and read cover to cover every issue of Westworld that AMA sends me. Imagine my surprise to read an article about community garage sales, and how popular they are. When the Taber and District Chamber of Commerce was approached with this very same idea, it was turned down because a few of the downtown businesses were not in favour of having main street blocked off for a Saturday afternoon. These businesses felt their customers would not have anywhere to park while they shopped. Rather short-sighted of them, as having a community gathering would mean many people would be coming into the downtown area to see what was being offered, and just might spend a few dollars in their stores. At this time, there are very few businesses open Saturday afternoon, and I wonder why the chamber of commerce cannot see what a money maker something like this could be for the town of Taber. It is too bad people have to go to Lethbridge on a Saturday to spend their money instead of keeping it in Taber. Or, is it possible the chamber of commerce isn’t interested in letting the outside world know just how community minded Taberites really are. JANIS READ Taber |
