EDITOR;
When we arrived at Murray Chev-Olds Cadillac we were greeted by a line that extended from the north car lot all the way around the lot to the west side, where I believe Lethbridge rugby team members were manning the barricade to allow people in to have their picture taken with Lethbridge's own Kris Versteeg and the Stanley Cup, which he played a significant role in the Chicago Blackhawks winning.
Being a former hockey player with dreams of that very coveted Holy Grail of the NHL hockey world the Stanley Cup but now in a wheelchair myself, I was disappointed that I would never get in to see Kris, who I had watched since his junior days and touch that Cup and have my picture taken with them.
We were getting ready to load back into the van when I heard a kindly voice saying, "Have you had your picture taken yet?"
I turned to see a gentleman on a scooter saying, "Let me show you how you can get in."
I needed no further prompting, as my friend and I followed him back around to the west and front of the line where more than a kind crowd control rugby player let me through the barricade, asking me if I could make it over the sill and in I bounced and met and had my picture taken and chatted with Kris about junior hockey, the Stanley Cup and after wishing him well with his new team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, we rolled out very happy and more than satisfied, feeling so fortunate that that kind soul Glen had shown me how to get by the line up and given me the opportunity so see and touch every kids’ dream, the Stanley Cup.
Thank you so much to Glen, Lethbridge sports volunteers manning the barricades, Murray Chev-Olds and Kris Versteeg — what a thrill from a big kid!
