There is something to be said about Christmas concerts in the Taber area that go far beyond the musical entertainment they provide for an hour or two for proud parents.
We all have the stresses of everyday life that sometimes make us forget what Christmas is all about; family, friends, good will and of course, the central theme of the 15 Christmas concerts that were showcased in the Taber area, the birth of Christ.
In our 9-to-5 quests to provide our families with the material comforts of the moment, it is breaks from the grind like Christmas concerts and quiet self reflection that will become our Christmas memories.
Since we are often working until at least Dec. 22 and are busy with our everyday lives, it can be hard for some of us to feel the magic of Christmas. If it wasn't for the Christmas shows and local Christmas carol community events, many of us would probably not get into the Christmas spirit until we are surrounded by family and friends on Christmas Eve.
Not only do the Christmas productions give parents and other audience members a special lift, they also can take us back to the days when we were the ones entertaining our parents on our school stage at Christmas time. As we watch the new generation show their nervousness by fiddling with their hands and illustrate their excitement with their facial expression, we can't help but reminisce.
Year round students come home with artwork for their parents to hang on the fridge. For a lot of parents and other family members however, Christmas concerts are likely the highlight of the school year. They probably look forward to the moment when their child spots them out of the crowd and waves.
Perhaps those who do have a bit of a difficult time grasping the holiday spirit should check out one of the local Christmas concerts next year. They are especially enjoyable for those who know the students, but anyone who attends just might catch the Christmas spirit.
The feeling of Christmas contagious. If we want to have the spirit we have to be in the company of those who are. Local children are our best bet when considering who we could catch the spirit from. As we watch Christmas concerts, we are not only being entertained, we are also learning. When it comes to the Christmas spirit, children set the best example. |
