Good things come to those who wait. Unfortunately, when it comes to the Aquafun Centre, pool users will have to wait a little longer.
Closed since Jan. 7 for nearly $1.9 million dollars in upgrades, the Aquafun Centre was originally scheduled to open May 5. However, the opening date has tentatively been pushed back to May 12.
Aline Holmen, leisure services co-ordinator for the Town of Taber, was apologetic for the delays of at least a week but noted user groups will be pleased with the Aquafun centre when it re-opens.
"I've being getting numerous calls asking when the pool is going to open and when it does, I think they are going to be very pleased with the upgrades that have occurred," said Holmen.
"We are doing everything we can to get the facility open as soon as we can."
All the major upgrades that were scheduled to be completed by today are a couple days behind, according to Holmen, with the little things still to be addressed.
"The delays are more to do with the smaller issues we have to address like painting, procedures we have to rewrite , cleaning-up projects and reorganizing our approach," said Holmen, who added the Aquafun centre is also waiting on health-and-occupancy permits. "When we open, we want to have the facility where there is no work left over that may affect people's safety."
Front-desk operations for the Aquafun Centre are expected to be moved from the Blue Room of the Taber Community Centre to the pool next week for people to be able to book swimming lessons. Plans are for a grand reopening of the Aquafun Centre, with a date still to be determined.
"We have been getting a lot of calls on that one," said Holmen, who added also there was a rumour swirling around that Aquafun access fees were doubling because of the upgrades. "That is certainly not the case - our rates are staying the same."
With the Aquafun Centre in a recruitment faze, original hours of operation may be affected initially.
