Reader outraged by horse rustling and mutilation

Posted on March 30, 2016 by Taber Times

Sometime between 9:30 a.m., Thursday Feb. 25, and 9 a.m,. Friday Feb. 26, my daughter’s beautiful solid sorrel Appaloosa mare, Ima, was stolen from our family farm between Purple Springs and Grassy Lake. I count and check our horses each and every day. If any are missing, I go looking for them. Ima was nowhere to be found.

On Sunday, 10 days after Ima disappeared, I was contacted about a dead horse close to my property. I went to see if the horse was Ima. It was.

Our beautiful, faithful mare had tried so desperately hard to come back to the home she had known all of her life. To her family, her offspring, and her siblings. But the journey was too much for her big kind heart. She had seemingly been running for a while, and died in that flight. Ima had obviously been abused. She had three slashes across her throat. Her right eye was completely missing from her beautiful, elegant head. She had lost a lot of weight. When she was found, she had not been dead for very long.

Ima’s abduction and death were devastating. Ima was very valuable to us. She was a terrific kids horse for my grandchildren. She was very calm, and well broke.

Those responsible for Ima’s abduction, harboring, abuse, and eventual death are in my opinion, abusive, disgusting, despicable, deranged monsters who should not be allowed to go unpunished.

If anyone saw anything or has any information at all in regards to this horrendous crime against Ima, please contact Taber RCMP at 403-223-4447, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

If you or your information can prevent this type of horrific crime from happening again, maybe the horse you save, just might be your own.
