Forward direction for town council

Posted on May 10, 2017 by Taber Times

To the citizens and staff of the Town of Taber,

Following the resignation of Henk DeVlieger as mayor on April 24, we as council of the Town of Taber would like to inform the public of our intention to move forward for the remaining months of our terms in office. While the resignation of our colleague was unexpected, the six of us are dedicated to continuing on with the duty the people of Taber have entrusted us with, regardless of the circumstances we currently find ourselves in.

We would like to thank the public for their patience while we work through having one fewer member on council than we are used to. The people of Taber deserve nothing less than the full commitment of their councillors, and that is precisely what we will provide for them.

Additionally, as council of the Town of Taber, we would like to formally state that the public opinions of one member do not reflect the sentiments of the entirety of council. The staff of the Town of Taber have our enduring respect and admiration for the work they continue to do in making our community a great place to live. It is because of their continued efforts that council is able to make informed decisions on behalf of the people we are elected to represent. We are proud of the entire administrative team, and look forward to working with them on business as usual.

On behalf of the entirety of council,

ANDREW PROKOP
Deputy Mayor

Editor’s Note: The following letter was received prior to council’s motion on May 8 to appoint Andrew Prokop mayor until October’s municipal election.
