For most students, the arrival of a new school year came way too soon, especially since it started in August a couple of days shy of the first day of September. While the calendar was not favourable to a post-Labour Day start to the new year, students should be grateful Alberta Eduction does not require them to make up the snow days that hampered school districts last year.

It’s almost time — time for Taber’s late-August tradition to thrill locals and visitors alike. Cornfest 2010 is upon us and once again, it seems everything is in place for another exciting celebration. Each and every year, it seems a new addition is made to the party, which adds a new spin to the celebration and helps keep the event fresh.

It does not take a real rocket scientist to figure out you will be seeing a little more traffic in upcoming weeks with the harvest season fast approaching. With the Highway 36 corridor very much a part of the agriculture heartland here in southern Alberta, the roads will be bustling, carrying the area’s nourishment to various locales.

Traditionally the focus on impaired driving ramps up during the Christmas and New Year holiday seasons when most people would assume there are more impaired drivers on the road. It would stand to reason that during a traditional season of partying, including home parties and company parties, there would likely be more impaired drivers on the road. That assumption would appear to be very wrong. The summer months are actually the time when more impaired drivers are on the road, according to provincial statistics on collisions involving impaired drivers.
