Taber novice Sharks and Terminators were in a two-game tussle with each other over the weekend. The first game saw the Terminators double up the Sharks 8-4 at the Taber arena on Saturday. Calin Kinniburgh had the hat trick for the Terminators and Cody Stange tallied twice. Conner Tams, Kolby James and Dallas Bodnar had singles. Kinniburgh also had three assists with James drawing two.

For the Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (3-23-4), quitting could have been the easy part against its first-round opponent in the Medicine Hat Boston Pizza Hounds (14-3-3). Down a game in a 6-2 defeat on the road last Thursday in the best-of-three series, the Suns rose with guts and determination to push the series to a third game and won 6-3 on Monday on the road to advance to the second round of playoffs.

As Canadians were earning medals in Vancouver this past week, W.R. Myers wrestlers were earning medals at the Highwood High Wrestling Tournament in High River. Emmitt Campbell was awarded the bronze medal in the 108-kilogram category and Brandon Armstrong was awarded the silver at 90 kilograms.

Taber midget Oilers seem to be playing some of its best hockey leading into the final weeks of the season. Saturday night saw the Oilers shut down the top-seeded South Country Sabres with good defence and solid goaltending for a 2-0 victory, as Keven Sajinovic earned the shutout.

St. Mary’s Celtics boys basketball team cruised to a tournament title in Vulcan over the weekend, and beat each opponent by at least 14 points in the process. Celtics dismantled host County Central 83-52 in the final against a team that was shorthanded, which spelled trouble against a St. Mary’s squad that has had no trouble scoring points all season.
