The M.D. of Taber is issuing several claims under the Southern Alberta Disaster Recovery Program for its citizens, due to the heavy rains earlier this year, as the M.D. has made a claim for itself as well.
M.D. infrastructure has felt the wrath of Mother Nature to estimates anywhere between $500,000 to $700,000, as final numbers are likely to be finalized in a couple of weeks.

Last Friday at about 2:45 p.m., residents in  Taber’s northwest area smelt something a little foul.
As it turned out, a 60 millimetre gas link had been struck and severed, which created a considerable gas leak. Residents nearby the leak were evacuated, as Taber Emergency Services crews and ATCO Gas staff attended to the leak. Precautionary evacuations south and west of the incident also took place.
Mike Bos, the acting fire chief for Taber Emergency Services, said crews on site made the right call when evacuations were ordered.

Alberta producers with cropland affected by the heavy spring rains will soon have access to the recently-announced $450 million federal-provincial funded AgriRecovery relief program, intended to help farmers take immediate steps to protect and restore damaged cropland.
Amounting to $30 per acre in assistance for affected cropland, Alberta’s slice of the eligible payout to producers is $42.1 million, and will be administered through the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC).

According to a draft report of the Town of Taber Emergency Services Master Plan, there are some serious holes in the community’s fire-coverage capabilities.
The report, presented to council Monday night by Robert Cote, project manager/lead with Morrison Hershfield Ltd., stressed the need for a new fire hall, exposed a mysterious three minute delay for fire calls from dispatch to the fire department and found Taber’s fire-coverage area to be inadequate.
