U.S. bound? Don’t forget your meds

Posted on March 5, 2014 by Taber Times

You will not get any prescription medication from any U.S. pharmacy. I tried. I even suggested that my home pharmacy or my family doctor could fax a prescription for the seven pills required to get me home. That was not good enough. The only way that this would work was if my doctor was licensed in both Canada and the U.S.

This is not rocket science here. What it amounts to is straight pompous arrogance. Canadian doctors are not as well qualified? They — according to the experts — don’t measure up to the (over the moon) standards of U.S. doctors. Canadian doctors must have superhuman capabilities, and on top of it all be licensed and certified to practise in both countries.

You have to love those American politicians who insist on shooting themselves in the foot. It’s quite evident to me why the health care is in such a mess in the U.S. Heaven forbid they should take a page out of our book. That would be an admission that someone else knows how to run a successful program.

By the way, don’t think that extra insurance over and above Alberta Health Care will save you. This only works if you end up in the hospital bleeding profusely, or some other extreme emergency.
