On Saturday, at approximately 4:40 p.m., the Taber/Vauxhall RCMP, and Taber/M.D. Fire and Emergency Medical Services were called to a collision involving a child on a bicycle and a motor vehicle.

Investigators have been able to determine the bicycle and the motor vehicle were both traveling northbound on Range Road 174, when the collision occurred. The bicycle rider, six-year-old Daniel Wolfe, was taken to local hospital by EMS and then transported by STARS Air Ambulance to Calgary. Tragically, the child succumbed to his injuries and passed away at hospital.

The incident remains under investigation, however, no charges are pending. The occupants of the motor vehicle did not sustain any injuries. Victim Services have been engaged to assist the family of the victim. The collision occurred on Range Road 174, just south of Barnwell.

The following is an excerpt from the Taber Christian Facebook Page, the school in which Wolfe was enrolled in:

“It’s with a heavy heart that we have to say good-bye to Daniel Wolfe. On Saturday, he went to be with Jesus and His angels after a horrible bicycle accident near Taber. Daniel was going into Grade 2 this year at TCS and will be missed greatly by the staff and students. We would ask that as a school community, you would keep his family in your prayers. We will miss you Danny!”

Wolfe’s funeral is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m., at the Reinland Mennonite Church in Winnifred.

Visitation will be at Southland Funeral Home in Taber today from 6-7 p.m.
