Taber set to mark Alberta Arts Days PDF Print

Alberta Arts Days run Friday to Sunday, and Taber is going to be home to a number of weekend activities to help celebrate.
Confirmed activities so far include a Fibre Arts Display at the Taber Public Library, Fine Arts and Heritage Crafts Behind the Scenes at the Taber Arts and Crafts Society building, Dusty Boot Photography Display at the Mediterranean Grill and a Bembi Studio Photography Display at the Heritage Inn.

Vandalism on front lawn frustrates local man PDF Print

Derek Johnson, who lives on Taber’s northside, a few blocks from W.R. Myers, thought he would add an expensive decoration to his front yard this summer.
Just three weeks ago, he spent $700, plus moving costs, to install a heavy-duty water fountain. The concrete creation included a large bowl and a fountain that featured a pineapple in the middle. All in all, it was a pretty impressive display — note the use of the word “was.”

Good fences make good neighbours. That may be the case some of the time for the proverb by poet Robert Frost, but it certainly would not make for good green thumbs when it comes to one Taber neighbourhood.
Dirk Wever won for Best Environmental Garden this year from the Communities in Bloom judges for 2010. Located at 4902-60 Ave., Wever is next-door neighbours to Tony Merkle, whose garden took Best Edible Garden honours.

Taber to host 30th annual Terry Fox Run PDF Print

This is a big year for the Terry Fox Run, not only in Taber but across the globe.
It is the 30th anniversary of when Fox began his historical journey, as he dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean.
With that, the local Terry Fox committee, headed up by Yvonne Dreaddy, is hoping for a successful 2010 run in Taber, which takes place this Saturday. Last year, 185 participants signed up for the run, and Dreaddy has high hopes for this year.

Long-gun registry a valuable tool; police chief PDF Print

It is time for all police voices in Canada to be heard on the long-gun registry issue, according to Taber’s chief of police.
A voice from Taber would typically represent the western perspective and “...As there has been much said about, ‘us,’ I felt it necessary to let my views be known,” said Taber Police Service chief Alf Rudd.
Rudd attended the annual Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) conference recently held in Alberta, where a show-of-hands vote unanimously supported keeping the long-gun registry.
All chiefs were singular in the view this is a community and officer-safety issue, and not about politics or ideology.
