Sex-related charges against the former chair of the Taber Municipal Police Commission, Curtis David Paradee, have been adjourned one week until Jan. 31. Attorney Vanessa Cork appeared as agent on behalf of Paradee’s lawyer, Douglas Carle, for a docket appearance in Taber provincial court on Tuesday. Cork, who requested the adjournment, is an associate of the Carle Law Office. Paradee’s case had originally been scheduled for a preliminary hearing this month but had been adjourned in mid-December until Jan. 24 for re-election. Crown prosecutor Brad Stephenson, in accepting the request for a further adjournment, indicated to Judge J.N. LeGrandeur that Nadine Nesbitt, a prosecutor with the technology and Internet crime section of special prosecutions, was still involved in ongoing discussions over the case with Paradee’s attorney, Douglas Carle. Paradee faces eight charges, which include communicating via a computer with a person under 18 for the purpose of committing an offence, communicating with a person under 16 for the purpose of committing an offence, invite/counsel/incite a person under the age of 16 to touch and accessing, making and distributing child pornography. The offences are alleged to have occurred between July and October of 2010. Paradee had been with the police commission for five years and had served as chairman for the four months prior to his arrest in May 2011. He has since resigned his position. |
