There is a new face at Taber and District Adult Learning. Cindy Lauwen started last week as the association’s administrative assistant, and will be tasked with playing a huge role in the creation of the next Take a Class learning calendar, which will come out in January. Her new job is a departure from her work of the past decade. “I worked in continuing care at the hospital for 10 years, and I was looking for a change,” said Lauwen, who prior to that received her education at Lethbridge Community College in the therapeutic recreation program. When the administrative assistant post came open at adult learning, however, Lauwen decided the provincial building was the place she wanted to be. “All of it,” she said of what drew her to the job. “It was the organization and it is a place for creativity, and it’s where I can plan and organize things and use my talents.” Jane Brenner, adult learning’s executive director, said Lauwen was just the kind of person the organization was looking for. “What really impressed us with Cindy was her organizational skills... We’re just so excited and happy to have her with us.” Lauwen will be setting to work on the next learning calendar, mere days after the current one came out. The September-December calendars were in the mail to Taber-and-area residents this week. “She will be organizing all the Take a Class courses, call the instructors and putting the calendar together,” said Brenner. “She’ll be working with over 100 instructors. She’s the creative mastermind behind it all. It’s a big job because it’s so multi-faceted.” It’s a challenge Lauwen said she is up for. “I’m looking forward to meeting the people and working with them.” |
