Bantam Suns inch up to .500

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns (11-11-4) were able to pull to .500 on the Southern Central Alberta Hockey League season with two road wins over Southwest Rockies (4-19-2) as the Golden Suns programs head into the all-star break in Medicine Hat.

The first was a 3-2 victory on Saturday. Kolten Heins, Brant Mack and Logan Wiebe all scored with assists by Brady Garner, Reed Odland and Ace Wenbourne. Scott Tersteeg faced 31 shots on net to earn the win.

The team continued on to earn a 4-1 win over the Rockies on Sunday. Wiebe had two goals and Mack and Brock Palmer had singles. Mack also drew two assists with Linden Gouw and Wenbourne getting single helpers. Tersteeg faced 47 shots on net to earn the win.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns host Cranbrook Hornets for a two-game set with an 8:30 p.m. game on Jan. 24 and an 8 p.m. game on Jan. 25 at the Taber Arena.

PEEWEE: Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns earned a 7-5 win over Lacombe Rockets (1-22-1) on the road on Saturday.

Seth McCulloch potted two goals to go with two assists. Derrien Tonin had two goals to go with one assist. Dylan Nevil chipped in a lone tally to go with three assists. Mason Sande and Spencer Dorge both had singles. DJ Tonin, Brandon Hauck and Sande all had single helpers. Carl Tetachuk earned the win in net in relief, facing 13 shots.

The team then dropped an 8-3 game to Cranbrook Eagles (22-3-1) at the Taber Arena on Sunday.

Nevil scored two more times and Sande had a single. Nevil, Sande, DJ Tonin, Ryden Rempel and Josh Conley all had assists. Tetachuk faced a whopping 66 shots on net to keep the game respectable.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns are on the road Jan. 25th and 26th against Red Deer TBS and Red Deer Parkland respectively.

MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns skated to a 2-2 draw with Sylvan Lake Lakers (12-7-6) in SCAHL action at the Taber Arena on Friday.

Cole Nakamura scored both Suns goals with two assists from Jason Wong and single helpers from Calvin Swanson and Brayden Chambers. Dillan Kelly faced 36 shots on net to preserve the tie.

The team then suffered a 7-2 loss to Red Deer Graphics (16-5-2) on the road.

Travis Stoperski and Dylan Heppler scored with assists from Brock Boutiller, Swanson and Nakamura. Dylan Swanson faced 51 shots on net.

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns are on the road against Medicine Hat Venom on Jan. 24.
