Atom Oil Kings earn Spud league banner

Taber atom Oil Kings hockey team took home its Spud League banner after dispatching Picture Butte in its second round of playoffs.

Traveling to Picture Butte on Friday night, the Oil Kings won 10-8.

Damian Beswick potted five goals in the win with Tage Jensen and Kayden Kress getting two goals and two assists apiece. Jaxson Coutts rounded out the Oil Kings scoring with Tristen Egeland getting an assist. Shaylee Debona earned the win in net, facing 35 shots on goal.

The Oil Kings returned home to play in its banner-clinching game and took a 10-4 decision on Sunday on home ice.

Beswick and Jensen both had hat tricks and Kress recorded two goals and an assist. Ryan Gray had a single and three helpers. Tanner Fletcher drew two assists and Coutts, Blake Rabusic and Zach Fehr had single assists. Debona earned the win in goal, facing 25 shots on net.

MIDGET: Midget Oil Kings saw its hockey season come to an end with two one-goal losses to Picture Butte.

The first was a 6-5 defeat on the road on Saturday.

Ryan Mankow, Logan Wiebe, Spencer Phillips, Matthew Kerkhoff and Dawson Hendricks scored for the Oil Kings.

Wiebe and Rory Murphy had two assists apiece. Mankow, Gage Wiebe and Ryan McDonald had single helpers.

Oil Kings returned home on Sunday and fell 7-6 at the Taber Arena.

Dallas Bodnar had the hat trick and Clay Leismeister, Ryan Hubble and Wiebe had singles.

Wiebe drew three assists and Leismeister had two. Bodnar, Mankow, Kerkhoff, Kadin Reynolds, Mitch Young and Nathan Kaye had single assists.
