Peewee Suns sit atop South

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (7-2-0) split in its weekend South Central Alberta Hockey League play, as the squad enjoys its top perch in the south division.

Saturday afternoon saw the Suns upend the Olds Grizzlys (5-1-0) 4-1 at the Taber Arena.

Cage Smith, Rhett Serfas, Colby Gulliver and Barrett Van Nistelrooy scored for the Golden Suns. Noah Smith had two assists.

Brylin Noble stopped 28 of 29 shots to earn the win in net.

The Golden Suns followed up with a 4-3 loss to the Foothills Bisons (2-4-0) on Sunday at the Vauxhall Recreation Centre, despite the team’s best efforts, pelting the opposition with 58 shots on goal.

Kayden Yeaman, Gulliver and Kobe Urasaki tallied for the Suns. Smith had three assists.

Cason Van Hal took the loss in net, as he and Noble faced a combined 25 shots on net.

BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns (1-6-2) finished 1-1 on the weekend in SCAHL play, earning a 5-2 victory over the Foothills Bisons (2-5-1) at the Taber Arena on Friday night, notching four unanswered goals in the process.

Riley Preachuk, Heath Hansen, Kobe Fujita, Connor Chapman and Connor Harty scored for the Golden Suns.

Preachuk also had two assists. Keegan Stender earned the win in net, facing 32 shots on goal.

Sunday’s slate saw a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Olds Grizzlys (3-0-2).

Brady Magarrell tallied twice and Rhett Klemen had a single. Connor Eldridge had two assists. Kahil Wright took the loss in net, facing 34 shots on goal.

MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns lost 6-4 on the road to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Sunday.

Carter DeBoer scored twice in the loss and Kolby James and Rylan Millo each had singles. Blake Vaselenak took the loss in net, facing 29 shots on goal.
