If things go accordingly, construction on the Vauxhall centennial clock will begin in a matter of weeks.

During Vauxhall town council’s regular meeting held on June 15, council was given another update on the progress of the clock and how soon it could be completed.

Even though the centennial itself has been pushed to 2021 due to the pandemic, construction of the clock is still well on schedule for completion this year.

“Right now, out of the about $58,000 of the total cost, we are at about $46,500. We are very close and there has been a lot of interest. We have had messages and emails asking about it. Right now, we have the mini clock tower sitting at the Vauxhall Co-op centre and the plan over the next few weeks is to put it in different businesses so people coming in and out can see it,” said Coun. Kim Cawley, who also sits on the centennial committee. “The structure part of the tower will be complete by the end of June. It needs to come to Vauxhall where Joerg (Klempnauer) will install some conduits so it has power. It then has to go to Brooks to be powder coated. The clock faces are supposed to be here in July at some point and I think by the end of July or beginning of August, we may be ready to stand it up.”

Even with over $10,000 of funding left before the total cost is squared away, the centennial committee is confident they will be able to bridge the gap.

“We are confident we will get (the full cost covered),” added Cawley.

In a further email sent to the Advance explaining how they are tackling the remaining funds, Cawley explained the group is still searching for support from local businesses.

“So for the funding part, we are still looking for donations to complete the remaining balance,” explained Cawley. “We will continue to fundraise and seek donations until we are at our goal, but we are confident the remaining funds will come in, and that there are several businesses that have expressed interest that we haven’t heard back from or received funds from yet.”

For businesses or residents interesting in donating to the clock, sponsorship levels are diamond (over $3,000), platinum ($2,000-$2,999), gold ($1,000-$1,999), silver ($500-$999) and bronze ($499 and under) with each sponsorship receiving a plaque on the clock.
