Last Thursday afternoon Derrick Shirley, author and lead cyclist in the cross-country bicycle and book tour, “Making Wow!,” cycled through town and made a stop at the Taber Police Station and W.R. Myers High School to chat with teens. Shirley, a family counsellor and motivational speaker, embarked on a country-wide journey to personally meet Canadian teenagers, teachers, parents and police officers to ask them one question — What has a teen done to wow you? Shirley’s concern, is the negative influences impacting youth and families in Canada.

Organizers for the 2013 Southern Alberta Summer Games hosted in Taber were in the community last week to kick off the registration drive for the event which spans July 3-6.
