It’s that time again as W.R. Myers gets ready to host the 10th annual Rebel Classic Basketball Tournament.
Rounding out the boys draw along with Myers will be Sturgeon, Bert Church, Lord Beaverbrook, Ponoka, Picture Butte, who is the number-one 2A team in the province, and J. Percy Page who are currently the top team in Edmonton with an undefeated record. The Rebels boys have dropped from number two in the province for 3A teams to number five in the province.
“We have been battling injuries for the past four weeks, but we've had some time off lately and have a few bodies back and ready to go for the Classic. We are hoping this weekend can build some momentum and give us the boost we will need for the final push of the season,” said Greg Bowes, head coach of the W.R. Myers Rebels varsity boys basketball team.
The Rebels boys’ first game is at 8 p.m. on Friday against Lord Beaverbrook. A win puts them in the 1:45 p.m. game on Saturday against the winner of Brooks/Percy Page. A loss slates them for the 10:15 a.m. Saturday game. The boys championship game goes at 7 p.m.
“With zones being only six weeks away, and provincials seven weeks away, it is crucial we start to really dial-in on our systems and take care of all the little details of the game that help bring success,” said Bowes.
