W.R. Myers Rebels junior varsity girls basketball team blew through the competition at Rundle College to win a tournament title over the weekend.
The tournament proved easy sailing for the Rebels who dominated games against Rocky Mountain House, host Rundle College and then Foundations for the Future Charter Academy championship as well. “We beat everyone quite easily. I came into the job and the previous coach had already booked all these tournaments,” said Ashley Johnson, head coach of the W.R. Myers Rebels junior varsity girls basketball team. “Our skill level was quite a bit higher than everyone else’s. The girls have really improved as a team even between this short break we had for exams. The girls really worked on their shooting and ball handling and I saw that in the games. And we are getting a lot better in our press.” Taylor Moser was selected as a tournament all-star in which Johnson beamed with pride with the learning curve her team has shown from the beginning of the season to now, as the push is made to March. “That’s always exciting for a coach to see. There has been a dramatic improvement from the start of the season until now,” said Johnson. “The girls have really bonded and started playing as a team with that chemistry.” |
