For a Measuring Day for the Taber Fish and Game Association on Saturday, it looks like youth participation is measuring up quite well.
“The hunter’s education program that Patrick Horvath has been putting on has brought a lot of new hunters into it and they are really excited about it. There was a lot of youth there,” said Dave Chontosh, secretary/treasurer for the Taber Fish and Game Association.
“We made new awards for  youth so they don’t have to keep up with the adults, that has helped too. Entries were up and I think the youth had something to do with that. They are not so shy in bringing in a deer that is not real huge. They brought in what was harvested which they are very proud of and they should be proud of.”
The event featured 270 people in attendance with 152 entries with five display booths. Entries from Brad McPhee, Roddy McPhee, Kyle Steed and Todd Bolokoski qualified for the Boone and Crocket record book.
Chontosh was pleased with the extra help the association got on Measuring Day and hopes that help will continue on the executive as the group is having a meeting in the Blue Room of the Taber Community Centre on Thursday at 7 p.m.
