Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns (8-15-3) had a solid weekend of South Central Alberta Hockey League competition, earningÂ win and a tie against Red Deer teams on the road.
The team skated to a 1-1 draw with Red Deer TBS on Saturday. Josh Conley scored the lone Suns tally with assists from Ryden Rempel and Kole Fujita. Brayden Peters was solid between the pipes facing 30 shots to preserve the tie.
“The tie was a game where both goaltenders really played well. Both teams were coming off the all-star break where both teams were getting back into that game mentality after a week away,” said Jason Beckett, head coach of the Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns, who tipped his hat to his coaching staff which filled in while he watched the weekend games from the stands serving a suspension. “Both teams performed well where we just couldn’t get that extra little burst for that second goal for the lead. Both teams played hard for that tie.”
Peewee Golden Suns followed up with a 5-2 win over Red Deer Parkland (8-16-2) on Sunday on the road. Goal scorers were unavailable from source by press deadline.
“The kids came out with way more fire and desire. Our power play which we have been working on really stepped forward that game which pushed us over to success,” said Beckett. “We played very disciplined where we only took three penalties all game which provided us a lot of opportunities. They had way more penalties than we did. The kids played with confidence and they had the cobwebs out of the way from the day before.”
The peewee Golden Suns have a busy week of hockey action coming up including a provincial playdown game to go along with a Saturday road game against Badlands Longhorns. The team then returns home to the Taber Arena for a Sunday game against Lethbridge White Hurricanes at 1 p.m.
BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns were stung twice by the Cranbrook Hornets at the Taber Arena in SCAHL play.
The first was a 5-2 loss on Friday night. Brant Mack and Linden Gouw scored for the Suns who got assists from Brock Palmer, Ace Wenbourne, Tanner Turcato and Kolten Heins. Blaise Unruh and Scott Tersteeg both shared goaltending duties in the loss.
The team then lost 6-1 on Saturday.
Palmer scored with an assist from Clay Leismeister. Tersteeg faced 39 shots in the contest.
Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns have a grueling road trip coming up with a Friday game against Red Deer Steel Kings, a Saturday game against Sylvan Lake Lakers and a Sunday contest against Red Deer Ramada.
MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns were shut out 3-0 by Medicine Hat Venom on the road on Friday. Dillan Kelly faced 37 shots.
Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns are at home on Friday at the Taber Arena with an 8:30 game and again on Saturday with an 8 p.m. game against CRAA Gold.
