Brothers Kaleb and Mason Muller fulfilled their need for speed by coming home as medalists at the recent Alberta Winter Games which concluded earlier this month.
Kaleb won gold for his age division for Train-to-Train Boys 13-to-14-year-olds and Mason won bronze for his age division of Train-to-Train Boys 11-to-12 year-olds.
Both boys were on the gold-medal team with two other members from Zone 1 for the Train-to-Train boys relay.
“Kaleb skated very technical and maintained his leadership role on the team,” said Kim Bates, Zone 1 speed skating head coach for the Alberta Winter Games. “Mason raced very strategically and executed good technique and passing. Overall, I was pleased with both boy's performances.”
Bates has coached Mason for the past three years. This is the first year she has coached Kaleb.
“Kaleb is a very diligent and technical skater,” she said. “He always responds to the feedback you give him and he is keen and willing to learn more about the sport and how he can improve. Kaleb is a young leader as he is always willing to help mentor the younger skaters.”
“Mason has been working on his technique and it is finally starting to click. Mason is quite tenacious as he does not give up and pushes himself when he is tired.”
