Alberta Party: Save post-secondary education from PC neglect

Posted on May 1, 2015 by Taber Times

Today, Alberta Party leader Greg Clark
released his post secondary education platform.
“Rising tuition fees, student debt and lack of spaces in our post secondary
institutions have pushed post-secondary education out of reach for many
Albertans. The PCs have neglected PSE and, as a result, Alberta now has the
lowest participation rate in post-secondary education in the country,” said
Clark.
“Our plan is about making communities better. We are focused on increasing
the supply of affordable housing, building transit to reduce congestion and
providing stable and predictable funding to build the infrastructure that
municipalities need,”, said Clark.
“The Alberta Party believes that ensuring we have well-funded
post-secondary institutions and a highly educated workforce is essential to
promoting economic diversification. “
The Alberta Party has a better way:
– Cap tuition increases at the rate of inflation.
– Ensure all Alberta students who qualify for post-secondary education have access to a space.
– Restore the Summer Temporary Employment Program to provide more studentswith summer jobs in their field.
– Reduce student debt by increasing access to needs-based grants.
