Prior conservative governments deserve blame, too

Re: UCP fiscal restraint needs measured approach (Aug. 21)

I salute you for an editorial that said it all.

Coming from the world of finance I couldn’t have said it better.

The horrific destruction of this province by so-called conservatives (Reformers) has been sickening to watch and it’s no secret that had the royalty and tax structures, set up by the Peter Lougheed government, been followed under the Klein, Stelmach and Redford governments we would have at least $400 billion in our Heritage Trust Fund today and still have properly paved roads, the best health care and education systems in North America instead of being in the “Horrific Mess” as Lougheed called it, that we are in today.

Blaming Notley for trying to fix the mess she inherited by spending money, is just plain stupid. It can’t be done without doing what she was doing, but many Albertans believed all the lies Kenney fed them and now they will pay for their ignorance.

There is absolutely no way Kenney can run this province without an increase in royalties and with reduced taxes for his rich friends, the money has to come from somewhere, and cutting jobs, like Klein did, is likely where it will happen.

I think Kenney has finally woken up and realized it , and after teaching his followers to hurl their sarcastic comments at the NDP and Liberals he has hired a well known Liberal and a well known member of the NDP to help him figure it out, making his supporters look rather foolish. Instead of wasting taxpayer’s money he could have just asked Notley what should be done, she was on the right track.
