The Relay for Life movement is going 60 kilometres west.

Despite the Canadian Cancer Society’s efforts, Taber only had a handful of teams registered for what was supposed to be a mid-June event at the St. Patrick’s Oval, but instead has been moved to Lethbridge on Saturday.

“Taber actually only had four teams registered at the time we made the decision to move things over. And not all those teams are confirmed they will be coming to Lethbridge per se, but we have invited them,” said Aubrey Lanz, revenue development co-ordinator for the Canadian Cancer Scociety. “We decided to make the merge with the Taber relay with Lethbridge. That helps us keep the costs down, meaning more money can directly go to the people living with cancer.”

Also, instead of a pared-down event in Taber, the combined efforts will make the day’s entertainment that much stronger.

“It will make for a more fun and energetic event experience in Lethbridge instead of a much-smaller event in Taber,” said Lanz.

Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Lethbridge goes this Saturday from noon until midnight at the Civic Athletic Field at 6th Avenue South
