Peewee Suns rise to occasion

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns were able to win both of its games in South Central Alberta Hockey League action over the weekend starting off with a 5-1 victory over Lacombe Rockets at the Taber Arena on Saturday.

Dylan Nevil potted two goals and Kole Fujita, Kalem Haney and Blake Kondor all had singles.

Haney, Seth McCulloch, Brandon Hauck, Spencer Mehlen and Mason Sande all had assists. Brayden Peters faced 24 shots to earn the win in net.

The team proceeded to skate to a 4-1 victory over Medicine Hat Venom White at the Taber Arena on Sunday.

Nevil notched the hat trick and Kolby James had a single to go with an assist. Also registering assists were Tristan Miller with two and Josh Conley, Haney and D.J. Tonin with one each. Carl Tetachuk faced 32 shots on net to earn the win.

Taber peewee “AA” Golden Suns travel on Saturday to play the Foothills Bisons.

BANTAM: Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns were edged 4-3 by Medicine Hat Venom at home on Friday night as the Suns were victims to three power-play goals.

Logan Wiebe tallied twice and Brock Palmer once to  go with one assist. Also drawing helpers were Reed Odland and Hunter Johnson. Scott Tersteeg faced 38 shots on net.

Taber bantam “AA” Golden Suns host Edge School in Vauxhall on Friday at 7 p.m. The team travels to Strathmore on Saturday to battle the Wheatland Warriors.

MIDGET: Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns lost its two SCAHL games starting off with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the Taber arena on Saturday.

Jared Broderson scored the lone Suns tally with assists from Jason Wong and Calvin Swanson.

Dillan Kelly faced 38 shots on net for the Suns.

Midget Golden Suns’ follow-up game was a 5-3 loss to CNHA Canucks on Sunday at the Taber arena.

Brock Boutiller, Swanson and Justin Tams all scored for the Suns, getting assists from Dylan Heppler, Broderson, Brayden Chambers and Cole Nakamura.

Dylan Swanson faced 24 shots on net for the Suns.

Taber midget “AA” Golden Suns host Foothills Bisons on Friday at the Taber arena at 8:30 p.m. The team also hosts Red Deer Graphics on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Taber arena.
