Taber atoms split on the ice

Taber atom “B” Oil Kings skated to an 7-5 win in minor hockey action at the Taber Arena on Saturday.

Carson Comery had the hat trick to go with two assists.

Byron Kress had two goals and an assist. Ty Fitch had a goal and an assist and Brendan Appleton had a single. Michael Stronge had three assists. Kole Reynolds and Alanna Makarchuk had single assists.

The team then tangled with another Lethbridge team on Sunday at the Taber Arena and fell in a close one 11-10 to the Lethbridge Snipers.

Komery scored four times and Stronge and Fitch both had two goals apiece. Mackenzie Baynham and Brayden Kaye had singles. Kress drew three assists Makarchuck, Jesse Andrus, Fitch, Baynham, Appleton, Levi Van Beers, and Stronge all had helpers.

MIDGET GIRLS: Taber midget girls Oil Kings shut out Prairie Thunder 2-0 at the Taber Arena on Sunday.

Annika Simmons and Jayden Goodstriker scored for Taber.

“Lennae Wong was like a puck magnet. Controlling the rebounds has been the keys to her success. The team has really bought into our system and have been patient and now the pucks are starting to go in for us,” said coach Ryan Rombough.

Earlier, the Oil Kings edged Medicine Hat 2-1 on Saturday on the road. Goodstriker scored twice.

BANTAM: Taber bantam ‘C’ Oil Kings dropped a 10-3 decision to Lethbridge at the Taber Arena on Saturday.

Evan Harkness scored twice and Richard Brantner had a single.

Taber Tier II Oil Kings beat Medicine Hat 5-2 on Saturday and Lethbridge 5-4 on Sunday.

Saturday’s contest had Scott Loewen netting the hat trick to go with two assists. Daylen Parker had two goals. Ryan Hubble drew three assists and Kadin Reynolds had one.

In the Lethbridge win on Sunday, the Oil Kings got two goals from Ryan Mankow and singles from Dylan Jones, Quinn Slezak and Kevin Turner. Jones also had two assists with Slezak and Tyson Meier each getting single helpers.

NOVICE: Taber novice 2 Oil Kings played two games this past weekend. Saturday, the Oil Kings hosted Crowsnest Pass 2 and won 18-6.

Ashton Lukacs and Walker Skiba each had four goals, while Matthew Gensorek had three, Devan Loewen had two, and Alex Makarchuk, Kyler Marchuk, Evan Rabusic, Gavin Kinniburgh and Evan Koizumi each had one goal. Marchuk had three assists, while Rabusic and Skiba had two assists each, and Gwen Genert and Makarchuk each had one assist. Kahill Wright had the win in net.

The novice 2 Oil Kings then travelled to Standoff to play Kainai Sunday and skated to a 15-8 win.  Skiba, Loewen and Lukacs each had three goals, while  Rabusic and Marchuk had two goals, and Evan Koizumi and Tristan Egeland each had one. Alex Makarchuk had the win in net.

Taber novice 1 Oil Kings beat Kainai on Saturday 15-4.

Connor Eldridge, Kade Duell, Jaxson Coutts and Ainsley Duell all had hat tricks. Hayden Span scored twice and Erik Grimson scored once.

INITIATION: Initiation 2 won 17-5 over Irvine Bulldogs on Sunday at the Taber Arena.

Roman Pavka, Sam Tolsma and Wieler Krahn each scored hat tricks, with Tyson Church netting two goals. Lincoln Wiess, Brooke Friesen, Blake Rabusic each had one goal.

Initiation 1 dropped a 12-7 decision to Raymond at the Taber Arena on Saturday.

Goal scorers were Jordan Genert and Rex Bell with two each, and Kayden Kress, Nathan Planger and Langdyn Cummins notched singles.
