It was a tough week at the office for the W.R. Myers Rebels varsity girls basketball team, squaring off against two league powerhouses.

The team’s first game was a 78-46 loss to Raymond Comets.

Nina Gansner pulled off the double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Hayley LePard had seven rebounds to go with eight steals. Katessa Gross chipped in eight points.

The team proceeded to host Chinook Coyotes at home on Saturday and dropped a 76-37 decision.

Gansner had eight points to go with 13 rebounds.

“We ran into the second and first-ranked teams in the province in 4A. They are extremely good. Raymond has only lost a couple games all year and Chinook hasn’t lost a game yet,” said Kenney Wood, head coach of the W.R. Myers varsity girls basketball team. “It’s good to play tough teams, they make us play better and the pointed out some things that we can improve on, which we will be working on these next couple of weeks. We’ve had a very good season thus far and beat at lot of good teams.”

The team finishes off its regular-season slate this week with a home game against Cardston Cougars. Junior varsity is at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow at 8 p.m. The team then hits the road on Thursday with a game against Catholic Central Cougars.

“We are building for a week from Friday that’s when we play our first game in the zone tourney. We will be ready at that point and will put together a solid game,” said Wood.
