Bantam Rebels football team looking to spring into action

Posted on April 16, 2014 by Taber Times

The Taber bantam Rebels will hit the field next week for spring camp.

Monday will feature the team’s first practice, at 5:30 p.m. at W.R. Myers, as the team prepares for a May 15 jamboree in Medicine Hat.

“We’re giving ourselves four solid weeks of practice,” said head coach Garrett Simmons. “It’s a longer spring camp than usual, and we’re hoping to get some solid numbers out and get these kids exposed to a different level of football.”

The team will practice Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. each night at Myers, as Simmons added a few Friday and Saturday practices may be sprinkled in.

‘We know kids are busy with soccer and spring basketball, so we’ll try and figure out a few dates that work for everyone,” said the coach.

Equipment pick-up has been set for this Thursday at Myers at 8 p.m. Players who have not registered will also have an opportunity to sign up that night.

“It’s a great opportunity for kids to get a feel for the bantam game, get in shape and learn the offensive and defensive systems,” said Simmons.

“Hopefully, we get a few new kids to the sport and get a boost in our numbers. We’d like to head into the fall season with 30-plus players.”

Those interested can call Simmons at 403-382-0681 for more information.
