Baseball Rebels drop two

Posted on May 21, 2014 by Taber Times

W.R. Myers Rebels baseball teams had some pieces working on the field this past week, but unfortunately not at the right time as the squad suffered two 10-run losses.

Last Tuesday, the team suffered a 13-3 loss to Brooks and then finished up with an 18-8 loss to Milk River last Thursday at Ken McDonald Memorial Sports Park.

“We were in the game (against Brooks), it is just in the end of the game our pitchers lost it, we didn’t have the defence, and it went down the tubes,” said Caleb Zsednai, head coach of the W.R. Myers Rebels baseball team.

“The second game we were missing some of our best players and it was all new guys on the bump. Both games we had stretches where we played well.”

In the Brooks game, Ryan Meier was 2-for-2 at the plate.

In the Milk River game Ethan Robbins was 3-for-3, ripping two doubles in the process. Darian Simmons drew four walks and stole four bases. Brady Pavka was 3-for-4 and Dakota Huddlestun was 2-for-3.

The Rebels traveled to Maple Creek this past Tuesday with results unavailable at press time. The team travels to Eagle on Thursday before going to Vauxhall on Saturday to play in exhibition competition.

“Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of positives where I think we can roll into provincials and do just fine. I know where to put guys,” said Zsednai. “I know what to expect.”

Provincials for the Rebels are in Eagle Butte May 30-31.
