Finlayson secures Alberta golf pro honours

Like your most humble of Oscar speeches, for Ben Finlayson, it was an honour just to be nominated.
Ben Finlayson was more than just nominated though, he had actually got top billing as the platinum winner as favourite golf professional in Alberta according to the 2014 GolfWest Reader’s Choice Awards.
“It’s nice to have I guess. It gives me an idea what people think of me,” said the reserved Finlayson with a soft chuckle. “I don’t know how much their readership is so I don’t take it too seriously, but anytime you can get something like this, it’s nice to hear.”
GolfWest readers were poled on things like favourite courses in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Pacific Northwest in the United States. Courses were laos rated on scenery, and favourite holes along with golf pros.
“It’s what we do, it’s part of our occupation. People have said I should promote this, but I’d rather not, I don’t like drawing extra attention to myself,” Said Finlayson. “I just want to do my job the best I can. I’m not a huge ra-ra guy.”
Taber Golf Club also earned silver recognition in the survey for favourite clubhouse/pro shop in Alberta.
“From my perspective, the clubhouse has run more efficiently than it ever has. There has been a lot less stress on me and the board. They have done a really good job,” said Finlayson.
