Canadians have a lot to celebrate

Posted on June 29, 2017 by Taber Times

This Saturday, people across the country will help the nation celebrate a big birthday party.
It has been 150 years since the Constitution Act was enacted, marking the birth of the nation called Canada.

And, in its 150 years, Canada is a relatively young country on the global stage, but by no means is it one that exhibits all the immaturity and naivety of a wide-eyed child.

In fact, Canada has become known over the years for its patient and common-sense approach, particularly on the global stage (ppecific actions in recent years by our federal government seem to have taken a different approach to this methodology, though).

Sometimes ridiculed for our polite nature (Sorry, eh!), our slow, patient way of getting things done and even our food (maple syrup and poutine come to mind), Canada has become a respected and admired country around the world.

Slow and steady has won the race on many occasions for this fine country.

Despite the ridicule, Canada is also noted in a good way for its polite nature and patience, as well as its tolerance and acceptance.

While some countries are considered melting pots where cultures are blended and blurred, Canada can be proud for being a mosaic, where its cultures are connected, but remain distinct and unique and the nation has been working to improve on this, particularly with Indigenous people.

Strides are being made in many regards. For that, Canadians can be proud.

No doubt there is always room for improvement and Canada should be commended for the efforts in making this country even more wonderful than it already is.

On July 1, Canadians will be celebrating its 150th birthday with people taking in festivals, community events, and activities while waving the Maple Leaf and rejoicing as one.

There will be backyard barbecues, parades, and lots of faces painted red and white taking in all the festivities.

No matter how you celebrate this huge milestone, be proud to be part of the greatest country in the world as we set our sights on another 150 years.
